Curved furniture design has had a sustained interest in recent years, strong enough to call it a trend. In many ways it is a cyclical return to form, a homage to similar aesthetics in the design trends of the 60s and 70s. The current resurgence, however, is a modern rebirth of an old idea, which can only happen in this particular avatar within our current design and technological context.

“Generative” has become an AI buzzword but is an older usage in the world of Computer Aided Design. In the world of architecture, generative and parametric design has been the new wave over the past decades. In furniture design, it is still making its foothold and we are particularly taken by andblack Furniture‘s unique take on a technological idea nudged into a very organic direction, using shapes and materials that are more natural than most traditional furniture and decor.

AndBlack Design Studio X Tranceforme Designs

AndBlack Design Studio is an architectural and interior design studio based in Ahmedabad. Led by Jwalant Mahadevwala and Kanika Agarwal Mahadevwala, both post graduates from the Architectural Association, London. Jwalant worked with Zaha Hadid Associates and Kanika worked with Hopkins Architects in London. Jwalant’s exposure to and interest in parametric design, and Kanika’s training and interest in environmental design and natural materials are all on display in their original products at andblack Furniture.

At Tranceforme Designs we always strive to seek out and curate the vast talent and thinking in aesthetics and design that exists across the breadth of India and beyond. While this often takes the form of showcasing traditional crafts and forms, we are as driven to encourage the new era of designers and makers building a more contemporary and modern Indian aesthetic. The RAY Series by AndBlack Design Studio

The RAY series is a set of awe-inspiring home decor objects which aim to free the purpose of lighting from it’s purely functional presence in our spaces into a series of art objects with a cohesive design language, but with distinct and individual characteristics that shine.

RAY Pendant Lights

Suspended like stars in the night sky, the RAY pendant lights evoke a celestial comfort. These distorted funnel shapes with varying sizes and arrangements compose a dynamic constellation of design. This ensemble crafts a haven of sophistication that brings forth an interstellar saga of style.

RAY Hanging Straw
